Life Skills Program

Rainbow of leaves with the title "Life Skills Program".

The Life Skills Program at SHS is designed for students in grades 9-12 with developmental or cognitive impairments who require a higher level of support and modified curriculum in order to participate in the high school experience.

This program is currently run by Melissa Caye, a teacher with 20 years in education across various grade levels. She is supported by paraprofessionals who work collaboratively to provide each student with individualized instruction and the level of support needed for each student to reach his or her potential.

Four core courses are taught each year and include instruction in different areas of Science, Math, Language Arts, and Global Studies/History. The curriculum rotates so each student will be exposed to all 16 courses throughout their high school career if they attend the program for all four years.

Upon completion of the Life Skills Program, students may participate in the Inde Transition Program for young adults ages 18-22 where they can further develop the skills necessary for independent living, acquire the job skills needed to obtain a competitive job, or move on to post-secondary education.
