First Year Applicants
First-year applicants should be attending an approved high school program. Upon graduation, a minimum of 16 units, with 15 in college preparatory work, must be completed. The following college preparatory courses are required for all first-year applicants.
English 4 years Math (Algebra Ⅰ, Algebra Ⅱ, and Geometry) 3 years Social Studies (including 1 year of U.S. History) 2 years Single Foreign Language (3 years strongly recommended) 2 years Laboratory Science 2 years Electives 3 years ** School of Engineering & School of Nursing applicants **
Required high school Chemistry and PhysicsBeginning Fall 2020, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will recalculate grade point averages for first-year applicants as a part of the admissions review process. The recalculation process allows the admissions committee to review all applicants using the same metric and provides the opportunity to weight advanced coursework (AP, IB, Honors, etc.) in core classes as a component of the grade point average.

Admission Considerations
Admission counselors look at several aspects of your high school performance when reviewing applications, from your grades and coursework to your SAT /ACT score (optional). While interviews are not required, the Admissions staff may request an interview with certain applicants to obtain additional information or to clarify details on application materials.
Strong candidates for admission will have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and a class rank in the top 50% of the graduating class. (SAT /ACT scores are optional).
It is also recommend that students complete the following high school coursework:
- For years of high school English
- Three years of math (typically Algebra Ⅰ, Algebra Ⅱ and Geometry)
- Three years of Social Science courses (including U.S. History)
- Two years of science courses (including one (1) lab science
- Three years of a single foreign language. Students who have completed up to the third level of a language in high school are exempt from taking a foreign language at the university level.

Admission Considerations
Strong candidates for admission to Southern will have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale, and a class rank in the top 50% of the graduating class.
Prior to enrollment, applicants must have graduated from an accredited secondary school or hold an official high school equivalency diploma.
The recommended secondary school preparation includes the following areas:
English 4 years Mathematics 3 years Natural Sciences 2 years Social Sciences (including U.S. History 2 years Two years of a modern language other than English are also recommended.
When reviewing applications, Southern considers the following information:
- High school grades
- Rigor of coursework, in the context of options at your school
- Grades in any college or dual-credit courses
- Information provided in your personal statement on the application
Test scores, if submitted, are never the sole or primary reason for an admission decision; they are always considered in contect and as supplemental information.
SCSU does not require letters of recommendation, but may request them when a student is appealing a denial.
Interviews may also be requested to obtain additional information or clarify details on application materials.

Admission Considerations
Western Connecticut State University requires that candidates for admission have a high school diploma from an accredited secondary school or an equivalency diploma. General Educational Development (GED) scores must be converted into a State of Connecticut Equivalency Diploma.The following guidelines must also be met:
- Rank in Class (Top one-third (1/3) guideline)
- B average in the following:
English 4 years Mathematics 3 years Laboratory Sciences 2 years Social Sciences (including U.S. History 2 years Foreign Language (Recommended) 2 - 3 years - SAT (1080 guideline), ACT (21 composite)
- SAT /ACT optional applicants must apply by March 1st.
Students applying without SAT /ACT scores must meet the following guidelines:
- Minimum GPA of B or 3.0
- Rank in Class (Top 35% of Class)
Students applying without SAT /ACT scores must submit the following:
- Official high school transcript
- First quarter senior year grades
- Resume of activities and /or two letters of recommendation
** Students applying to the Department of Nursing MUST submit SAT /ACT scores for consideration.
