Subject: Important Update: New Volunteer Screening & Management Process
Dear Stafford Families & Community Members,
Stafford Public Schools is expanding the Raptor system you already use for daily visitor check-ins. We are now adding the Raptor VolunteerSafe module, which applies that same familiar technology to our volunteer application and screening process.
Why are we using Raptor VolunteerSafe?
In the past, volunteering required a slow, paper-based process and often a fee for background checks. The new Raptor VolunteerSafesystem allows us to:
District-wide Application: Allows applicants to apply to multiple schools at once.
Improve Safety: Automatically screen all applicants against national registries.
Save You Money: Eliminate the cost of enhanced background checks for volunteers.
Stay Organized: Better manage and coordinate volunteer opportunities across all schools.
What do existing volunteers need to do?
If you were already approved for 2025-2026, you do NOT have to re-apply until Fall 2026.
If you were approved for Group 1 (supervised volunteer) and you now need Group 2 (enhanced clearance for field trips) you WILL need to request that your existing approval be removed by contacting synnottk@stafford.k12.ct.us or your student’s school for more information.
What do new, potential volunteers need to do for this school year?
If you wish to volunteer in any capacity (e.g., classroom helper, field trip chaperone), please complete the following steps:
Submit an Online Application:
OR visit www.stafford.k12.ct.us > For Parents > Volunteer at SPS to access the mobile-friendly application
OR use the QR Code above.
OR visit www.stafford.k12.ct.us > For Parents > Volunteer at SPS to access the mobile-friendly application
OR use the QR Code above.
Wait for Approval: Once your background check is processed, you will receive an email notification regarding your volunteer status.
Provide Identification: During your first visit after applying, you will be asked to present a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license) for a quick scan.
Change often requires a period of adjustment, but adopting this new technology allows us to prioritize student safety and streamline the volunteer process for everyone. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a safe environment for everyone. Your dedication as a volunteer helps keep our school community vibrant and secure.
Sincerely,
Scott Sugarman
Superintendent of Stafford Public Schools
